And the sneakers were couture

Dado que hoy llega a las tiendas la esperadísima colección cápsula de Alexander Wang para H&M, aprovecho para enseñaros su última colección en la Fashion Week de Nueva York, porque cualquier excusa me vale para hablar de Alexander Wang, para que nos vamos a engañar. Debo confesar que esta temporada Wang ha sido de mis favoritos, no solo porque la colección ha sido impecable, sino porque ha ido un paso más allá y ha conseguido que convivan a la perfección el símbolo por excelencia del "street", las sneakers, con la Alta Costura. 

 Nada nuevo, pensareis, hace tiempo que las sneakers se han convertido en un símbolo de nuestra generación, más que un elemento deportivo, y conviven a la perfección con otras prendas más sofisticadas de nuestro armario. Incluso Karl Lagerfeld presentó ya en la colección de Otoño de 2015 unas sneakers made in Chanel... pero no dejan de ser sneakers con  rasgos característicos de Chanel como el tweed. 

As today Alexander Wang´s capsulle collection for H&M hits the stores, there is no better way to start the day than remembering his latest collection at New York Fashion Week, and because, let´s be honest here, I need so little to start talking about Wang´s perfect collection. I must confess that Wang has been one of my faves this season, not only because I loved the concept behind it, but because he is the only one who can make sneakers, couture.

Nothing new under the sun you may think. For a long time now sneakers are no longer just sportwear and they have become an icon of our generation and fit perfectly in our wardrobes with more sofisticated items. I mean, even Karl Lagerfeld showed us a sneakers made in Chanel in his Fall 2015 fashion show... but they were just sneakers with Chanel´s signature tweed.

Pero Wang, mi querido y adorado Alexander Wang, ha ido un pasito más allá y no se ha limitado a hacer unas sneakers molonas, no. Las sneakers han sido el leitmotif de toda la colección, reinterpretando modelos icónicos como las Stan Smith de Adidas o las Flyknits de Nike y haciéndolos vestidos. De este modo manipula la idea de la que parte y la mezcla con el corte de Madame Gres o Fortuny. Cómo se nota su nuevo puesto de director creativo de Balenciaga.

Al ver los vestidos inspirados en las Stan Smith casi me da un síncope. No solo la idea detrás de toda la colección es genial, sino que la técnica y el resultado final son impecables y, lo más importante: son propuestas totalmente ponibles. Las texturas, los materiales... me he enamorado. 

But Wang, my lovely and cherish Alexander Wang, has gone one step further and he didn´t just do a pair of cool sneakers, oh no. Sneakers became the leitmotif behind this collection, reinterpreting iconic styles like  Adidas´ Stan Smith or Nike´s Flyknits and turning them into gorgeous dresses. He manipulates the idea and blend it with the cutting of Madame Gres or Fortuny. He is the new creative director of Balenciaga, and it shows!

When I saw the Stan Smith dresses I went nuts! Not only the idea behind all of this awesomness is absolutely great, but technique and the final result are impecable. And not only that, they are also weareable. Oh the textures, the materials... I think I´m in love.

Si pensabais que sus vestidos Stan Smith eran geniales preparaos para ver lo que ha hecho a partir de unas Nike Flyknit. Esas míticas zapatillas de running se convierten en vestidos entallados y pegados al cuerpo de texturas maravillosas y un toque sexy.

If you thought Stan Smith dresses were pretty awesome wait until you see what he did with a good old Nike Flyknits. Those iconic running sneakers became sexy body-con dresses in electric colors and wonderfull textures. 

Lo que está claro es que Alexander Wang sigue siendo el rey del estilo cool neoyorkino y ahora, con la dirección artística de Balenciaga a sus espaldas, está demostrando que va a seguir siendo el rey durante muuuucho tiempo. Mientras llega su siguiente colección siempre nos quedará H&M y su colaboración con el rey del estilo neoyorkino.

There is no doubt that Alexander Wang is the king of the streetwise downtown cool and now that he is also the creative director of Balenciaga, seems that he is gonna stick to that tittle a pretty long time. So while we wait for the next fashion season we´ll always have his colaboration with H&M.

Moschino´s Happy Meal

Cómo me gustaría hablar Moschino porque la colección de Jeremy Scott ha sido simplemente GENIAL. Más allá del revuelo que haya podido causar por la propia estética de la colección es más que eso, es mucho más.... es una oda y homenaje a la propia marca además de una actualización brutal de la misma pero sin renunciar a la esencia de la casa italiana. 

El trabajo de Jeremy Scott en esta colección, para mi, es comparable al que realiza Karl Lagerfeld con Chanel temporada tras temporada. No se desfigura en ningún momento la esencia de la firma y hay piezas icónicas que se repiten a lo largo de los años...mmm ¿No resulta repetitivo y manido ver las mismas piezas temporada tras temporada? Al fin y al cabo estamos en una sociedad que exige novedad cada seis meses... Oh, nada más lejos de la realidad mis pequeños... esos objetos se convierten en iconos. Son lo mismo, pero no lo son. Enhorabuena Jeremy. (Hola de nuevo logomanía y cinturones horteras de Moschino. Os echaba  tanto de menos!)

How I´d like to speak Moschino! Just because Jeremy Scott´s collection was absolutely GENIOUS. Apart from all the noise that this particular collection has caused on the media because of the strong images it had, it was more than that, so much more.... It was an ode, an homage to Moschino´s legacy as well as a crazy  update of the italian brand.

Jeremy Scott´s work, to me, was comparable to Karl Lagerfeld´s work over Chanel season after season. The esence of the brand, the things that made it what it is are still there, in fact, there are some items, totems migth be a better way to say it, that are always there. But, wouldn´t we be sick of them at this point? I mean, we expect change every six months and yet the same items appear...  Oh no, my dears. They´re the same but not quite the same. You did It Jeremy!! (Hello there logo-maniacs and Moschino´s tacky belts. I´ve missed you!!)

Moschino siempre ha sido provocación y exceso con un toque de horterísmo e ironía a raudales, lo que le causó a su fundador problemas con Chanel ya en los 90. Con la "ridiculización" de la iconografía de la firma francesa en los 80 con su bling bling, los cinturones con logo o el acolchado característico del 2.55 no solo se convirtieron en el epítome del lujo y la elegancia para Chanel, también eran justo lo contrario gracias a Franco Moschino.

"Si no puedes ser elegante se extravagante" (Franco Moschino)

Moschino has always meant excess, provocation, a bit of tackyness and lost of irony, which caused some troubles with Chanel back in the 90´s. He mocked Chanel´s totems in the eigthies: the bling bling, the huge logos on the belts (or on absolutely evertything for that matter) or the padding of the 2.55. Those were not only the epitome of luxury and class, they were the perfect example of the oppsite as well thanks to Franco Moschino.

Por si eso no fuera ya bastante, Jeremy Scott fue un paso más allá y no solo ironizó con la firma francesa y todo lo que representa, la cultura de consumismo también se llevó su parte. El concepto de Fast Fashion ha sido redefinido. Nunca dos opuestos se habían atraído más. La costura y el lujo representado por Chanel con la iconografía de McDonalds hace que la costura pase a ser fast fashion. Ready to Order. 

Oh ironía...dulce ironía.

La cultura basura y de masas es el concepto que hay detrás de todo esto. La iconografía de McDonalds y la aparición de Katy Perry al final del desfile no son fortuitos son una crítica más y los crowd pleaser por excelencia a día de hoy. A esta estética pop se incorporan los elementos más comerciales de la cultura de consumo, como hizo Andy Warhol en los 60. Si Warhol hubiese hecho moda el resultado hubiese sido algo como ésto.

If that alone wasn´t enough Mister Scott added a little twist and not only he mocked Chanel and all that it symbolizes, but he also mocked consumery culture. Fast Fashion now has a new meaning. It seems that the opposites do attract each other, and they attract each other like hell I´d say! Couture and luxury of Chanel sartorial suits mixed with McDonalds iconography makes couture, fast fashion. Ready To Order.

Oh irony...sweet, sweet irony.

Junk and mass culture is behind all this. McDonalds inconography and Katy Perry working the runway weren´t lucky, it was all a critic about today´s society and massive crowd pleasers, which was kinda the point of this collection. The pop sensibility of the collection was full with the most commercial things about our culture, somehow like Warhol did in the sixties. If Warhol would have done fashion he would have done something like this.

La colección es tan genial que no me extraña que la fundas de móviles y los jerseys se hayan convertido en los objetos de deseo y todo el mundo quiera tenerlo.... Interesante desenlace para una colección que se ríe precisamente de ese consumismo....

 Oh ironía, dulce ironía....

It´s so great that it´s no surpraise that the french fries phone cases and Moschino/McDonald´s sweaters are the new objets of desire and everyone want to have one.... Interesting since this collection makes fun exactly of that....

Lupita´s Night. The Oscars

Como bien manda la tradición, ¿Qué se hace tras una gala de Los Oscar?. Efectivamente, criticar los looks de las invitadas a la ceremonia y valorar las mejores y peores vestidas de la noche. Porque aunque no queramos reconocerlo en el fondo todos somos muy de criticar, sea para bien o para mal.

As tradition dictates, what´s the proper thing to do after The Academy Awards Ceremony?. That´s right, gossip about who wore what and see who wore it better. We human beings are like that, although some people say they are not, that´s a lie. We all like to gossip about the dresses, for better or worst.

Y para mi el Oscar al mejor look de la noche, como ya habréis podido adivinar, es para el maravilloso Prada en azul Nairobi de Lupita Nyong´o. El tono del vestido no podría quedarle mejor y la simetría del escote estiliza y da elegancia a un vestido en realidad sencillo. Si las princesas Disney trabajasen y fuesen mujeres coraje estoy convencida de que vestirían así.

And the Oscar for Best Dressed of the night goes to.... Lupita Nyong´o (what a surprise!) and her stunning Prada in baby blue. That shade of blue fits Lupita perfectly and the symetry of the neckline makes it a bit more edgy. A really simple dress but not boring. If Disney Princesses work they´d dress like this, I´m sure!

El que Lupita haya sido una de las más elegantes no ha sido una sorpresa, la verdad. En cada una de sus apariciones en las distintas alfombras rojas ha sabido cómo llamar la atención gracias a su uso del color, con algunos detalles más innovadores pero sin estridencias. Con elegancia.  El vestirse para esta mujer debe ser una indecisión total, teniendo en cuenta que le quedan bien todos los colores del Universo...

Lupita´s perfect choice was no surpraise for those who have seen her in the different red carpets pre Oscars ceremony. Every time she steps on the red carpet she is memorable thanks to her intelligent use of color with a bit of edgyness and very clean looks. Always keeping it classy. Getting dress for  her must be hard as hell just because every single color of the universe looks good on her!! 

Por otro lado, la clara tendencia de anoche fue la apuesta por los looks en total white o en tonos nude, generalmente en forma de vestido joya. Incluso Angelina Jolie, inseparable del negro para este tipo de eventos, se decantó por un diseño en nude de Eliee Saab. Si tuviese que elegir me quedo con el minimalismo y  la elegancia de Naomi Watts, en mi opinión, de las mejores de la noche.

Apart from Lupita´s perfection, the main trend that we could see at last nigth red carpet was total white or nude dresses. Even Angelina Jolie, who always prefers black at this tipe of events, succumbed to this nude trend and rocked a beautiful Elie Saab. If I had to pick I´d choose Naomi Watts minimalism. I think she was one of the best dressed lsat night. 

En cuanto a los looks de las celebrities embarazadas, que siempre parece un poco más complicado (teniendo en cuenta que para algunas de las que no están embarazadas también les resulta difícil embutirse en sus modelitos), Olivia Wilde supo como acentuar su belleza y barriguita. Si preferís un ejemplo gráfico de cómo NO vestirse ahí tenéis a la Pataky.... en qué estaría pensando???

As for pregnant celebrities, which always seems a bit difficult to dress for this events (even for some of those who are not pregnat may be hard to fit in some of their outfits), Olivia Wilde knew how to stand out. And if you´re wondering how not to do it here it is Elsa Pataky... oh honey...just don´t...

MBFW NEW YORK: Fall 2014

El 6 de Febrero dio el pistoletazo de salida el mes de la moda con un mejor comienzo imposible: New York. Perfecto para ir calentando motores y prepararse para el resto de citas en Londres, Madrid, París y Milán. 

Aunque ha habido propuestas muy buenas e interesantes (La colección de Alexander Wang fue PERFECTA),  en esta ocasión he decidido centrarme en aquello que más me ha llamado la atención de algunos diseñadores y construir looks a partir de esas prendas. 

The sixth of February was the date to remmember on this fashion month of February with no better start than New York. Perfect for warming up and getting ready for London, Madrid, Paris and Milán afterwards!

As always New York was no disappointment (Wang´s collection was ABSOLUTE PERFECTION to me) and this time, I´ve decided to focus on what has caught my eye from all the different designers and try to make my perfect look. This is gonna be interesting...

Estoy totalmente obsesionada con la colección de Alexander Wang, así que, en mi look perfecto no podía faltar uno de sus maravillosos abrigos estampados con láser. En la parte de abajo he optado por esta propuesta de Tiby con falda y pantalón para el frío invierno que, además, contrasta el volumen de la parte de arriba. Al ser negra la parte inferior del conjunto le doy protagonismo a la parte de arriba, que me tiene enamorada perdía!! El toque masculino de los zapatos aporta más personalidad si cabe al conjunto. 

I´m obsessed about Alexander Wang´s collection so, one of his gorgeous laser printed coats is a MUST on my perfect look. Period. Tiby´s mix of skirt and pants, I think, it´s perfect because it adds texture to the outfit and balance the volume of the top. Plus, being total black it makes the top stands out giving it more importance in the outfit, which helps to increase my obsession (I wanna marry this collection). The shoes are just an extra kick of attitude.

De Marc by Marc Jacobs me conquistó el uso de diferentes texturas y volúmenes, el estilismo del desfile me pareció genial. En esta ocasión, teniendo en cuenta la fiebre del tartan en la que nos encontramos ahora, he querido construir un look más formal y otro más relajado usando la misma falda de Marc by Marc Jacobs. Aprovecho para recomendaros echarle un vistazo a la colección de Jeremy Scott, super gamberra como siempre y sobre todo su colección para MOSCHINO! (se merece un post aparte)

I loved Marc by Marc Jacobs use of textures and the way they´ve created volume, the styling was really cool. This time, and taking into account the tartan/plaid fever of the moment, I´ve wanted to create two different looks with the same Jacobs´ skirt. And now that you´re here, I recomend Jeremy Scott´s fashion show, as badass as always... gotta love it. BUT above all, please, check his collection for MOSCHINO! (that deserves a special post)

En general de esta fashion week me gustaría destacar :

- El uso de nuevas siluetas por parte de Victoria Beckham. Se ve que está teniendo cada vez más confianza como diseñadora y eso le hace probar nuevas fórmulas, así que, mini-punto para ella por salirse un poco de su fórmula mágica.

- Del Pozo afianzándose en la fashion week de la gran manzana. Arriba los diseñadores españoles!!!

- Y, desde luego, Alexander Wang y su concepto de supervivencia en la ciudad. Exquisito. (por supuesto tendrá un post especial en breve)

I´d like to point out about MBFW New York:

- Victoria Beckham discovery of new lines. She´s becoming more confidence about her work as a fashion designer and she´s trying new things, which is great.

- Del Pozo´s presence at New York fashion week. HURRAY for Spanish design!!

- And, of course, Alexander Wang and his whole survival in the city concept. Exquisite. (He´ll have a post all about his collection soon)

Flashback Friday

Aquí Marina para contaros hoy lo que me gustaban a mi las Spice!! Así que, para inaugurar estos Flashback Fridays no se me ocurría nadie mejor para tal honor. Qué horteras de bolera eran... no hace falta repetir mi horterismo innato, así que creo que os podéis imaginar que para mi siguen siendo un icono de estilo!!!! Siempre adaptado a la actualidad, que tampoco es cuestión de salir a la calle y que a una la confundan con Pikachu.

You have no idea how much I loved Spice Girls!! So I couldn´t think of a better way to start this Flashback Friday section than with them and their marvellous tacky style. There´s no need to remind you all that I´m Kitsch and tacky like no other so, to me, they´re still a style reference!! Always wearing it like a normal person from 2013 would do it, I don´t want to be mistaken with Pikachu on the street.

Como todas, yo también jugué a ser las Spice Girls con mis amigas en el recreo (nuestra pasión era tal que, si no teníamos radiocasette, nos poníamos a cantar ahí... a pelo!) y, sin duda, eso es lo que nos ha mantenido unidas hasta el día de hoy unos 17 años más tarde. El habernos visto en tales condiciones unas a otras une una barbaridad!! 

Por si os quedaba alguna duda al respecto de su estatus indiscutible de iconos de moda, os voy a demostrar que por muy horteras que fueran, que lo eran, su influencia se deja ver hasta hoy. Y principalmente porque me encantan, por si acaso no se había notado.

SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!!

When I was younger I always imagined with my friends that we were the Spice Girls. So at school break we sang all their songs while we danced around like chickens with no heads. I´m sure that´s what made us stick together all this time (around 17 years this far), if you see each other at your lowest that creates an unbreakeable bond!!

If you have any doubt left about Spice Girls FASHION ICON status, I´m gonna show you that, even if they were the most tacky people of Brittain,(let´s be honest, they probably were) their influence is still around us. And just because I still love them.

SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!!

Estos zapatos de Prada estéticamente tienden más hacia las creepers pero no puedo evitar ver cierta relación. 

Se que los zapatos Buffalo no son aptos para todo el mundo pero debo reconocer que yo, en su momento (hace unos cuantos años) me los compré y pude evitar que mi madre me los tirara....y todavía los tengo!!! Todavía no me los he puesto porque pesan una jartá pero algún día los sacaré a pasear.

I know Prada shoes are aesthetically closer to Creepers than Buffalo´s but I can´t help but seeing some connection.

Buffalo shoes are may be not for everybody but, I must confess that, I bought them several years ago and somehow I manage for my mom not to throw them away so I still have them!!!! I haven´t worn them yet because they´re a bit heavy but I´m eager to take them for a walk.

Es estilo más adaptado actualmente ha sido el look sporty de Mel C. Si os fijáis en los distintos streetsyles os vais a hartar de ver sneakers (Balenciaga, Michael Kors, Jeremy Scott o Kazuky se están lanzando a ello). Las sudaderas también han tenido su momento de esplendor con Kenzo o Balenciaga como ya os mostramos en esta ENTRADA y los pantalones de chandal no gozan de tanta popularidad desde Madonna en sus años mozos. 

Sporty Spice style has been copy a lot for fashionistas all around the world lately. Sneakers are the trend of the moment. If you take a look at some of the streetstyle pages you´ll see them everywhere (Balenciaga, Michael Kors, Jeremy Scott or Kazuki among other are starting to design them too). On the other hand sweatshirts have had their 15 minutes of fame thanks to Kenzo or Balenciaga as we told you in this POST and sweatshirt pants haven´t been so popular since Madonna circa 1990.

How to wear... tops.

ATENCIÓN, ATENCIÓN!!! Aquí Marina informando! Hoy os dejo una tendencia que he visto varias veces en los street styles de las diferentes pasarelas de moda y me llamó bastante la atención (nunca mejor dicho). Desde Nueva York a Milán ha sido uno de los nexos de unión entre las fashionistas de todo el mundo. Y hoy os la traigo yo a vosotr@s a ver qué os parece.

ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!! Today I leave you with a fashion trend that I´ve been seing a lot in all the street styles at the different fashion weeks. From New York to Milan this trend has been the link among all the fashionistas around the globe. And now I show it to you to see what you think about it!

Ya habréis supuesto por las dos primeras fotos que la tendencia en cuestión es el llevar las cazadoras sobre los hombros como suelen hacer las señoras de los pueblos cuando un poco de "fresca". Tras una primera impresión un tanto extraña de esta "nueva" moda, en la que me daba la impresión que iban a empezar a decir "oy, oy, oyyyyyyyy" mientras se cruzaban la chaqueta y miraban por encima de sus gafas cual señora mayor, debo decir que, a medida que lo he ido viendo le he ido pillando el gustito.

Como veis es apto para chaquetas y bombers como para abrigos y gabardinas. Personalmente el llevar así la gabardina me gusta especialmente, creo que le da mucho rollito al look y consigue relajarlo un poco.

As you´ve already guessed from those two first pics the trend I´m talking about is wearing the jacket over the shoulders without putting your arms through the sleeves, as an old lady would do. At first I didn´t like it that much because I had the impression that everybody was going to start acting like and old english upper class lady, but as I´ve seen it more and more I´d like it better.

As you can see, jackets and bombers are fine but it can be done with coats and trenchs. I personally like it with trenchs the most because to me it looks really cool...

El caso es no llevar mangas. Otra de las maneras de conseguir ese efecto es a través de abrigos o capas, generalmente de corte recto, con dos aberturas en los laterales para sacar los brazos sin necesidad de mangas.  El efecto puede ser un poco tiranosaurio rex porque da la sensación de que los brazos se acortan pero, si no sois partidari@s de llevar la cazadora "a la Herminia" (he decidido bautizarla así) esta es una opción muy viable para adaptar la tendencia y sentiros a gusto con ella. No hay que ser una fahsion victim, si la tendencia del momento no va contigo, adáptala a tu estilo y siempre hazla tuya!!

Por si quedaba alguna duda al respecto, las principales revistas de moda a nivel mundial ya han comenzado a usar esa tendencia en sus editoriales. Si tuviese que elegir me quedo con el editorial de Vogue China.

The important thing here is not wearing sleeves. Another way to achive that is using coats or capes, usually straight cut, with two slits on both sides for your arms. Visually it can be a little Tyranosaurius Rex because it makes your arms look shorter but, if you´re not that into wearing your jacket over the shoulders this is a really good alternative very chic and fashionable.You don´t have to be a fashion victim, if you don´t like the trend just make it yours and wear it as you feel more confortable with it.

The most important fashion magazines are starting to use this trend at their fashion editorials. If I had to choose only one of the editorials I´d go for Vogue China´s one, I just love the aesthetic of it.

Y, como no, una de las fashionistas "of the moment", Miroslava Duma,  es la indiscutible reina de esta tendencia. De hecho, me atrevería a decir que ha sido su principal precursora, porque es prácticamente inseparable del estilo "a la herminia". Da igual si son cazadoras, chaquetas o abrigos, todo vale en este caso.

Así que ya sabéis, si tenéis algún tipo de duda (aunque esta tendencia es de las facilitas, no como la mezcla de estampados que en su momento llegó a ser peligrosa!... se llegaron a vender gafas del tipo 3D para poder ver algunos outfits) mirar lo que lleve la Duma y acertaréis. Asín de fácil.

One of the it girls of the moment, Miroslava Duma, is the queen of this particular trend and it couldn´t be other way. In fact, I´ll even say that she´s the main influencer at this case because she´s almost inseparable of this over the shoulders thing. It doesn´t matter is she wears a jacket, a bomber or a coat, everything is fine. 

So, if you have any kind of question regarding this (although this fashion trend is particulary easy, not as others like pattern mixing that even became a bit dangerous!.... Special glasses, like 3D glasses, were needed to watch some outfits) just watch what Miroslava is doing.  

Por último, los principales bloggers no son ajenos a ir " a la herminia" y algunos de ellos se han dejado ver por las calles de las diferentes semanas de la moda más a la última que nunca. 

Me quedo con cómo lo hace Leandra Medine de Man Repeller. Es una de mis bloggers de referencia y un icono de estilo. Me flipa cómo consigue hacer mezclas imposibles que al final quedan super armónicas y siempre lejos del estilo "mamarracha"...vamos, que me encanta! (Para que no se me ponga celosa también he que decir que Sussie Bubble es otra de mis referentes, pero en esta tendencia en particular no la he visto muy fina)

Last but not least, the most  important bloggers are into the "over the shoulders" tops as well, and some of them have rocked this trend in the main fashion weeks. 

I pick Leandra Medine of Man Repeler way to do it. She´s one of my reference and go to bloggers. To me she´s a style icon and I love how she knows how to mix apparently opposite things but make it look pretty balance at the end without achiving that "blogger look" really tipical. (Sussie Bubble don´t get jealous you´re one of my favourites too but in this over the shoulder trend I haven´t seen you as much...)
